Agricultural adaptation, local knowledge and livelihoods diversification in North-Central Namibia

First, it surveys available information on projected or potential climate change impacts on farming in Namibia and considers the implications for policy decision-making processes of the uncertainties inherent in these projections. Second, it focuses attention on another rich but under-utilised source of information for adaptation decision-making in smallholder farming: namely, local agro-ecological knowledge found across North-Central Namibia. Third, it takes stock of the implications for adaptation policy of a central phenomenon occurring across the country: livelihoods diversification away from farm-based activities.

The report is relevant to researchers, policymakers and practitioners interested in agricultural development, climate change and adaptation.
